Sharjah and Ajman City Centres raised over AED 10,000 for Emirates Thalassemia Society through a fun and unique initiative that allowed staff to dress down to work for a day and wear jeans in exchange for AED 10.

Retailers and staff at these two malls took part in the campaign along with employees of Majid Al Futtaim Properties, owner and developer of Sharjah City Centre and Ajman City Centre, and helped raise funds for Thalassemia which is a disease with a genetic component. The fund raising initiative is part of Ajman City Centre’s annual ‘Denim Days’ campaign which now in its third year and for the first time was supported by Sharjah City Centre.

Through such initiatives, Majid Al Futtaim Properties attempts to help the Emirates Thalassemia Society achieve their important goal of reaching out to the thousands affected by the illness.

Ali Al Abdullah, Vice President – Divisional Asset Management for Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said, “Thalassemia has a high prevalence in the UAE with one in 12 people said to be a thalassemia carrier. Each year we endeavour to make a small contribution to The Emirates Thalassemia Society, which is doing some wonderful work, not only for people who have the disease, but also to educate and raise awareness among society on how to prevent it. I would like to thank everyone who generously contributed to this humanitarian cause.”
