ALBAWABA - Metropolitan Police arrested a man who crashed a car into the gates of London's Buckingham Palace over the weekend.
A man was arrested after crashing his vehicle into Buckingham Palace's front gates early Saturday morning. According to a video obtained by SWNS, London Police officers are seen with their pistols drawn and shouting directions at the man, who was kneeling on the ground with his hands on top of his head.
"Armed officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage. He was taken to hospital. There were no reports of any injuries," police said in a statement. "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances".
A bystander near the palace at the time said they heard a noise before seeing the police arrest the man. "I heard a loud bang, and I looked over and the car had crashed into Buckingham Palace", the witness who wished to remain anonymous told the New York Post.
"Police were on the scene pretty quickly – and they got the man out and arrested him".
Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British royal family, has strict security measures in place, with armed soldiers constantly monitoring the structure's location in the heart of the capital.
Previously, the palace has been the target of numerous break-in attempts. In September of last year, a 25-year-old man was arrested after attempting to access the royal stables.
In the run-up to King Charles III's coronation in May, a man was jailed for throwing shotgun cartridges onto Buckingham Palace grounds.
The same month, a 43-year-old man was detained after slamming his car into the gates at Downing Street, the home of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
