Intersec Middle East - the largest Security, Fire, Safety & Health and Police & Homeland Security Exhibition in the region will address the importance of securing the high seas - a vital life line of international commerce that accounts for 90% of international trade making it a critical player in the global market.
“As the trading environment for maritime services expands within the region, stakeholders in maritime transport need to enhance security measures and its implications for the transport sector,” said Angela Schierholz, Senior Show Manager at Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH, organizer of Intersec Middle East which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from January 13 to 15, 2008.
She noted that a large portion of the world’s transportation needs were being served by the maritime industry that has grown considerably since the early 90’s due to the expansion of international trade. In parallel the expansion of international organized crime coupled with the emergence of terrorist networks has brought into focus the all-timely issue of piracy and its negative side effects for the maritime sector.
The perils concerning sea navigation, rarely surface in the mainstream media, despite the fact that piracy is a major concern for the world trade and the highly important sea trade. Modern age pirates have in their disposal hi-tech electronic equipment like GPS, satellite phones and night vision goggles. Moreover they tend to use high-speed vessels armed with automatic machine guns, RPG rocket launchers and in general they could be described as “Open seas guerillas", albeit searching for profit rather than ideological meaning in their actions.
“In our age of increased globalization and need for safe transportations; piracy is an obstacle that has to be dealt with and Intersec Middle East offers a platform for companies providing services and equipment of all kinds to deal with perils at sea,” remarked Ms Schierholz.
Smarter Security Systems will introduce SmarterSentry to the Middle East: the Mobile Surveillance Solution. SmarterSentry is an easily moved, rapid deployment solution that includes multiple day/night surveillance cameras, a robust DVR with local and remote capabilities, a cellular or satellite transmission system for remote connectivity to live or recorded video footage, as well as optional items such as lights and beams. The system is designed for harsh outdoor environments. An optional power generator provides up to 30 days of quiet, uninterrupted power. Markets with portable surveillance needs include border protection, oil and gas, emirates/cities/police, event and remote security sites, and construction sites.
Other prominent exhibitorsprominent exhibitors in this sector include SeaComAir Germany that manufacture a complete range of high pressure breathing air compressors from portable 2.2kW compressors with 80L/min - 2.8 cfm charging rate up to 15kW high capacity compressors systems with 600 L/min - 21 cfm charging rate. SeaComAir compressors are widely used by fire departments, industrial, marine, police, military services, rescue and commercial units. All SeaComAir compressors are built and individually tested, have CE certification and comply with all breathing air international standards for grade 'E' and DIN EN12021.
Japan’s Segawa - a top-class quality manufacturer of portable searchlights – will display their latest range of lighting equipment with extensive beam coverage and ample battery duration. The searchlights are designed to fit comfortably in the hand, and carry well over long periods of extended use. They are ideal for check points, area searches, perimeter control, search & rescue, maritime and boarding activities, foot searches, long range identification, emergency management applications, emergency signaling, fire rescue, hiking/mountain climbing, community and public safety patrol.
There are several “Hot spots” across the oceans and high-Seas that are considered to be highly problematic areas as far as incidents of piracy are concerned and emphasize the perils involved for maritime professionals and travelers as well. High risk areas include Nigeria, Somalia, Bangladesh, Chennai (India), Indonesia, Yemen, Peru and Brazil.
This particular subject of maritime safety will be tackled by Chris Metson, Fleet Safety Manager P&O Cruises in a Talk titled “Planning and Preparing for a Crisis Situation on the High Seas during the IOSH Conference Scheduled from 13th to 15th of January . The IOSH seminar will be just one of a number of dedicated forums at Intersec Middle East that will examine topical issues and concerns from across the safety and security industries. “The Intersec Middle East seminars are one of the most important aspects of the three day show,” says Ms. Schierholz. “They provide the ideal environment for leaders to meet and explore the concerns and new developments within their spheres of interest,” she adds.
Intersec Middle East enjoys the ongoing support of numerous trade and government organizations namely Dubai Police, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), Build Safe Dubai, and Dubai Civil Defence which, after a spectacular premiere in 2007, will again demonstrate their state-of-the-art fire fighting and rescue capabilities at Intersec Middle East in 2008 in Dubai.
The international importance of the Middle East’s biggest show and conference for these industries is emphasized by a steady increase in the numbers of exhibitors, visitors, space and overall international attendance. Intersec Middle East in 2008 will also be host to 13 country presentations from Germany, France, China, Pakistan, Austria, the UK, the USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Italy, Scandinavia, Taiwan and Canada.
