ALBAWABA - Trend news agency reported a massive explosion has hit the the main gas pipeline in the Iranian city of Borujen.

Iranian media reported that the sound of the explosion, which affected one of the main major gas transport lines (Line 65), was heard across a distance of approximately 60 kilometers.

Firefighters and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident.

According to Iranian Radio and Television, the city's governor, Fattah Karmi, stated that an explosion in the high-pressure national gas pipeline was most likely to cause the catastrophe.

"The connection between Brugen, Lordgan, and Khuzestan has been blocked near the pipeline that saw the explosion, while rescue and fire teams are stationed at the location," Karmi said.

"The fire will continue to expand as long as there is gas in the line and we hope that the efforts of the firefighters will help limit the damages".

According to Karmi, "it is not possible at this time to ascertain the nature of the event, whether it was an Israeli act or an accident".
