ALBAWABA- An explosion occurred on a container ship docked at the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan in China's eastern Zhejiang province, the world's busiest port.

 State media reported the incident, though details remain scarce. Video footage shows a massive blast, followed by flames engulfing the area, causing significant destruction at the scene. Further updates are awaited as authorities assess the situation.

Notably, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group, a major state-owned enterprise in Zhejiang Province, oversees the largest and deepest berths in China, making it a key hub for the country’s maritime trade. 

The port serves as a vital distribution center, connecting to the busiest trade routes in the Pacific Ocean and supporting the dynamic Yangtze River Delta economic region.

In 2022, Ningbo Zhoushan Port handled 33.35 million TEUs, ranking as the 3rd busiest container port globally. Its total cargo throughput reached 1.25 billion tons, securing its position as the world's top port by cargo volume for 14 consecutive years, according to reports.
