Massive explosions reported in the vicinity of Hmeimim Air Base

ALBAWABA - According to a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, massive explosions were reported in the vicinity of Hmeimim Air Base.

The report detailed that an Israeli airstrike targeted and destroyed a weapons depot in the coastal Syrian city of Jableh. Using drones and warplane missiles, Israeli forces targeted the ammunition depot leading to a massive explosion that was heard miles away.

The Observatory added that a response by Syrian and Russia was reported almost an hour following the Israeli strike, as it targeted the vicinity of the airbase, which is Syrian but operated by Russian forces.

The report also added that defenses intercepted missiles off the coast of Jableh, a city on the northwest coast of Syria. As many as 30 missiles are claimed to have been fired.

Meanwhile, Iranian missiles are claimed to have targeted Al-Shaddadi base in Al Hasakah in Northern Syria, with fragments falling on a house near the base. No casualties have been reported so far.

As these strikes took place, an Israeli strike targeted a residential building in Al-Mazzeh area in Damascus, killing at least 4 people, including; a young woman, Hassan Nasrallah's son-in-law, Hassan Jaafar al-Qasir, in addition to two others.

Local reports revealed that the targeted building is frequented by Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members in the Syrian capital. 

Since the beginning of 2024, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has recorded 93 Israeli strikes targeting sites in Syria, 76 by air, and 17 by land, resulting in the total or partial destruction of some 184 targets.
