The Saudi Health Ministry announced the fatality on its website on Sunday, saying the 81-year-old, who died in the capital Riyadh, was suffering from several chronic diseases.
Saudi Arabia has recorded 147 MERS cases, of which 61 have now proven fatal, since the virus first emerged in 2012.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 182 cases of MERS infection are reported worldwide. The organization added that it has also recorded 79 deaths from the illness for which there is no vaccine.
The virus was discovered in September 2012 in a Qatari man who had recently traveled to Saudi Arabia. Experts are still studying the deadly disease.
Similar cases have been also reported in Jordan, Qatar, Germany, France, Italy, Tunisia and the United Kingdom.
MERS-CoV is regarded a deadlier, but less-transmissible cousin of SARS, which first broke out in Asia in 2003 and infected more than 8,000 people.
