An innovative device that soothes weary guests or jetlagged travellers with a high quality "sleep experience" could soon be found on bedside tables in hotel rooms in the region.
Called the NightCove and using combinations of light and sound designed to improve sleep quality, the futuristic table-top device is to receive its Middle East debut next month at The Hotel Show, the leading supplies exhibition to the region's hospitality industry which takes place at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from 8-10 June 2008.
Designed by French company Zyken that develops exclusively designed wellness enhancing products, NightCove combines sound and light of varying colour, wavelength and intensity to stimulate melatonin levels, a hormone that helps regulate sleeping and waking cycles.
For sleeping, NightCove produces light similar to twilight and reverses the process at wake-up time, creating the natural brightness of dawn. It blends sound into the light programmes with rhythms relaxing and soothing in the evening, stimulating in the morning.
"NightCove orchestrates a world of light and sound to provide hotel guests with a high quality sleep experience," said Christopher Glick of Zyken. "By influencing physiological parameters like melatonin levels, NightCove helps guests fall quickly and serenely into deep sleep and wake up rested and full of energy."
Maggie Moore, Exhibition Director of The Hotel Show, which attracts owner-operators, key decision makers from hotel chains, architects, interior designers and industry professionals, said: “Hotel guests who suffer from fatigue and jetlag would find this device perfect for restful nights away from home."
NightCove can be integrated into hotel information systems. "For a truly personal service, receptionists can set up programmes before check-in for sleep, wake-up, naps, relaxation and so on," Glick added.
The Hotel Show and its associated Seven Star Conference provide a future perspective on key trends and drivers shaping the travel and tourism sector in the Middle East.
The Hotel Show is the leading supplies exhibition to the region’s burgeoning hospitality and leisure sectors and this year will cover nine halls and more than 17,000 square metres of exhibition space when it opens on 8 June 2008. This represents almost 20% growth over last year and organisers dmg world media Dubai are confident the industry showcase will break more records in terms of visitor numbers.
