Morocco rejected the suggestion that "it is open to discussions with the Netherlands" regarding the cancellation of the right to dual nationality for third-generation Moroccans in the Netherlands. The announcement came from the Moroccan Ministry of Information after the Dutch Minister for Immigration and Integration, Rita Verdonk, said last week that Morocco has recently adopted an “open attitude" to this matter.

Yabiladi reports that Verdonk, who was on an official visit to Morocco (June 12 to 15), said she wants clarification on the misunderstanding.

She also explained that the Dutch government wishes to "prevent as far as possible" a situation in which third-generation immigrants, who have been born in the Netherlands, retain two passports. She added that this applies to all immigrants and not just to Moroccans, and that this is just another way to assure that immigrants to the Netherlands will integrate better into the Dutch society.
