Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a global leader in wireless communications, demonstrates the region’s readiness for innovations such as mobile TV and WiMAX as a gold sponsor at this week’s Middle East Communication Forum (MECOM), taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from 22-25 April 2007.
Held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi & Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Chairman of the Executive Council of The Emirates of Abu Dhabi, MECOM marks Motorola’s most extensive demonstration of its seamless mobility solutions in the region.
Visitors to the Motorola stand can experience the latest 802.16e WiMAX technology that enables lightening-fast applications through wireless broadband access. 802.16e WiMAX is one of Motorola’s big plays in the wider Middle East region, with Abu Dhabi Group-owned Wateen Telecom deploying a Motorola-based nationwide wi4 WiMAX network in Pakistan earlier this year. In addition, Motorola will also be demonstrating other solutions from its MOTO wi4™ portfolio as well as its GSM solutions and services.
“The Middle East region is poised to make an unprecedented leap in the next two years in terms of its capability to deploy solutions such as IP TV, and create wireless broadband networks that use the latest technologies such as WiMAX that will enable data access to grow well into the double digits,” said Hassan Tavakoli, vice-president, Middle East and Africa at Motorola.
“It’s consumer demand that drives Motorola’s seamless mobility vision – people in the Middle East and beyond want mobile devices that give them the entertainment and stylish connectivity they need, and this access extends right into the region’s technology and economic boom with connected home initiatives for ‘on demand’ content,” added Tavakoli.
Within MECOM, Motorola has also created a ‘virtual world’ for its seamless mobility vision, with handsets such as the MOTORIZR Z8 capable of offering mobile TV and Motorola S9 stereo Bluetooth headsets demonstrated next to the latest no-installation Bluetooth car kits to help address the region’s automotive safety issues.
A Motorola ‘living room’ within MECOM provides a glimpse of the region’s future entertainment landscape. With a truly connected home, Middle East consumers will be able to control voice, data and video services with one device. Consumers will certainly welcome the ‘Zero touch’ element of on-demand connected home solutions, which complement their busy lifestyle and enhances the user experience. The region’s real estate boom and the demand for personalized entertainment is driving Motorola’s connected home business in the Gulf.
The region’s economic boom may also benefit from Motorola’s critical communications solutions portfolio, with Motorola’s two-way radio communication solutions providing the information availability, security and reliability that first responders depend on, especially during crises such as fires, traffic accidents, and other emergencies. Increasingly, governments and enterprises throughout the Middle East are evaluating Motorola’s critical communications solutions for emergency services as well as the protection of strategic assets such as airports, ports, and oil and gas facilities.
Visitors to MECOM can get a firsthand look at the following Motorola ‘zones’ – the largest-ever regional demonstration of wireless solutions under one roof –
• The mobile zone, complete with a convertible sportscar and Harley-Davidson to demonstrate the latest Motorola devices for 2007, including the stylish KRZR K3, the multimedia feature-rich RIZR Z6, the state-of-the-art Moto Q smartphone and the sleek SLVR L9, plus accompanying Bluetooth wireless devices.
• The Networks & Enterprise zone, to view Motorola’s MOTOwi4 wireless broadband and GSM solutions and services deployed by leading Motorola customers including Etisalat, MTC Group, Orascom Telecom, Q-Tel and Wateen Telecom. In addition, a broad portfolio of critical communications and enterprise mobility solutions will also be on display.
• The connected home living zone, to witness the ‘on demand’ entertainment potential of IPTV and ‘triple play’ voice, data and video services for consumers in the Middle East.
As a key sponsor of MECOM, Motorola will be delivering three keynote presentations covering the latest wireless broadband technologies, IPTV and critical communications.
