Algerian archaeologist Mounir Bouchenaki, UNESCO’s deputy director general was awarded, in Warsaw, the Cultural Merit Order which was presented to him by Polish culture minister, it was reported Tuesday. Mr. Bouchenaki was born in Tlemcen, Algeria, in 1943. He holds a Postgraduate Degree in History from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Algiers (Algeria) and a Doctorate in Archaeology and Ancient History from the Faculty of Letters of Aix-en-Provence (France).
He joined the staff of UNESCO in 1981 as a program specialist in the Division of Cultural Heritage of the Sector for Culture.
