Egypt's military leader did not attend a court session in which he was expected to offer highly anticipated testimony about the former president's alleged role in the death of protesters. The report Sunday on Egyptian State TV did not give a reason for Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi's absence.
The report said the judge ordered him to show up on Sept. 24. Tantawi served as defense minister when Hosni Mubarak was in power.
Sources relate his absence to the violent events which erupted in Cairo following a raid on the Israeli embassy.
