Algeria's Health Ministry estimated, in a recent survey, the number of children traumatised by violence in Algiers at 49,000. In keeping with the national program on mental health for the psychological coverage of children, Chlef counts 22,000 child whereas 12,000 infants are registered in Jijel and 5,000 in Blida," Dr. Bouslimane, a senior executive in the Ministry told APS.

This national program, according to Bouslimane, "has achieved tangible results, referring to statistics of 1998 which show that more than 18,000 kids receive a psychological care." The phenomenon of violence, he went on, is perceived under different forms, and exists in all the countries all over the world with variable rates, knowing that 1,6 million deaths in the world are recorded every year after violence abusing actions."
