Nissan was recently awarded a special recognition award from the Jury at the International Car Festival in Paris as a result of its charitable activities with UNICEF. The Jury is made up of business leaders, entertainers, fashion designers, motorsports and automotive industry leaders.
Since 2004, Nissan France has worked closely with UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, reaching some 40 percent of the world’s children with life-saving vaccines, saving countless children from diseases such as tuberculosis, diphtheria, and polio. To support this work, Nissan France began a program whereby Nissan donated 40 euros for every 4X4 vehicle sold in France. Nissan France raised 385,000 euros during the year and presented a check for this amount to UNICEF. About 400,000 vaccines have been distributed as a result. In addition, Nissan donated a refrigerated Pick-up truck used by UNICEF Mauritania of Africa for the safe transport of vaccinations to remote areas.
“Nissan’s vision is ‘enriching people’s lives’” commented Monal Zeidan, Corporate Communications Manager at Nissan Middle East. “Nissan tries to contribute to the positive development of society; we do so with our cars, our programmes and our positive outlook in everything we do.”
In October 2005, Nissan pledged 10 million Yen to help earthquake disaster relief efforts in Pakistan.
