A Norwegian journalist was arrested Thursday in Yemen’s capital Sanaa under accusations of spying, reported AFP.
According to Verdens Gang newspaper, Raymond Lidal, who had been working in Yemen since 2013, was detained late last month while filming Saudi-led airstrikes in Sanaa when he failed to show a journalist visa.
Norway’s government has since contacted Yemeni authorities and confirms the arrest of a Norwegian national in Yemen, according to AFP.
Shiite Houthi militants entered Sanaa in September 2014 and have seized swathes of territory in Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition of Arab states has waged airstrikes against the militant group since March 26.
