The number of Iranian cellular phone subscribers is expected reach 10 million by the end of the country's third five-year economic development plan (2000-2005), according to the managing director of Iran's Telecommunications Co.

The company official told the Tehran Times on Thursday that the number of mobile owners was initially supposed to stand at three million, but, “thanks to programs implemented the figure rose to five million.”

He said that once private operator companies began operating, the private sector would also offer five million more cellular phones to applicants, besides the five million units to be offered by the government – Albawaba.com
