US President Barack Obama approved sending 450 more US military personnel to Iraq as part of a "train, advise and assist" program, AFP reported Wednesday.

The new personnel is to help Iraqi troops fight Daesh (ISIS) gains in the country, adding to the 3,000 US non-combat troops that have already deployed.

The White House said the new personnel would be assisting government and tribal forces.
