Oman has joined the beef banning bandwagon in the Middle East and has curbed beef imports from some of the European Union countries, as a precautionary measure to avoid the infection of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) infection, the Gulf News reported.

Ali bin Abdullah Al Jabri of the UAE Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries was quoted by the daily as saying that "this ban covers live cattle, beef products and by-products."

Meanwhile, Bahrain has also imposed a ban on imports of fodder and beef products from the EU because of the concern about the spread of mad cow disease -- Albawaba.com
