A series of explosions inflicted extensive damage on transmission and jamming equipment used by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s regime, an Iraqi opposition group claimed on Tuesday.
A huge fire broke out at a compound west of the Iraqi capital housing the equipment following six blasts overnight Sunday, the London-based Iraqi National Congress (INC) said in a statement published by AFP.
There was no independent confirmation of the claim, which did not elaborate on the nature of the explosions, however implied they were an act of sabotage.
There were no reports of casualties amongst workers at the broadcasting center, which was vital to the Baghdad regime, the INC said, adding authorities had launched an investigation into the explosions.
The same dissident group claimed on February 12 that anti-Saddam forces had carried out a series of acts of sabotage against Iraqi oil installations starting last August. (Albawaba.com)
