According to PETRA, representatives of all Palestinian national and Islamic factions to the Higher Follow-up Committee have affirmed their commitment to "a truce of calmness" reached in Cairo five months, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council Kamal Shurayqi stated Saturday.
During a meeting earlier on the day, national and Islamic groups also affirmed the Palestinian people's right to defend themselves and face Israeli escalation by all available means agreed upon nationally, Shurayqi said in a statement to Petra.
Shurayqi, who is also member of the follow up committee, said an agreement was reached to defuse tension, stop fighting and pull out armed and masked men from streets in Palestinian towns.
A statement issued by the committee banning the use of violence and encouraging instead the democratic dialogue as means to settle internal disagreements, he added.
