Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qurei urged on Monday the Palestinian security forces to take their role in order to put an end to the deteriorating security situation in the Palestinian territories. Qurei asserted in an interview with RNA following clashes in West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday between Palestinian forces and gunmen that Palestinian Authority will do its best to end the case of anarchy.

“The current situation has become unacceptable to the Palestinian citizen and official. This issue (of anarchy) should get the priority,“ the PM stressed.

Earlier, Palestinian factions decided on giving Israel 48 hours to cease its continuous violations of the declared calm, saying that it would reconsider maintaining it in case these violations continued.

Following a meeting of the Higher Follow-up Committee for National and Islamic Factions in Gaza, several leaders of the Palestinian factions said they considered the Israeli violations as grave. "We met to discuss the continuous and grave Israeli violations of the ceasefire, and we look with extreme concern at the continuation of the Israeli aggressions," Mohammed Al Hendi, senior Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza, told RNA.
