According to BNA, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a stern warning to fighters, saying he would not tolerate any further internal fighting or violations of a ceasefire with Israel.
Palestinian President, in a televised speech to the Palestinian people, called on militant groups to reaffirm their commitment to the "calm" that he agreed with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in a summit in February. An upsurge of Israeli-Palestinian violence has brought the truce close to collapse. The flare-up has coincided with internal clashes between militants and Palestinian police trying to prevent continuing rocket attacks on Israeli targets. He said Israel was using such attacks as a pretext for a military crackdown in Palestinian areas. Israel said it acted because Abbas has not done enough to rein in militants.
