According to a study on the aging of Tunisian population carried out by doctor Said Hajem, the percentage of aging population jumped from 4.1 % in 1956 to 9.3 % in 2004. La Presse reports that according to the same study, the aging population will reach to 18 % in year 2029. In the study, doctor Hajem notes that the life expectancy at birth was 67 years in 1984 and rose up to 73 years in 2002. Hajem says that the life expectancy at birth in 2029 will be 77 years.
