ALBAWABA - Poland has called off a planned meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after he unexpectedly went to Moscow. This shows that tensions are rising within the European Union over how to deal with Russia.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki's office said that he will not meet with Orbán one-on-one during his upcoming trip to Hungary. The two leaders were supposed to meet on December 4, the day after the Visegrád Group summit in Esztergom, which is where Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic get together.

The cancellation comes after Orbán's trip to the Kremlin on Friday, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to talk about the state of Russian oil refineries that are currently under EU sanctions. The visit happened at a bad time for the United States, as it is working hard to get Russia and Ukraine to agree on a peace deal.

Orbán, who is one of U.S. President Donald Trump's closest European allies, is widely thought to be the EU leader who is most sympathetic to the Kremlin. This has made it hard for Europe to agree on a common stance toward Russia.

Marcin Przydacz, the Polish president's top foreign policy advisor, wrote on X that Nawrocki has chosen to limit his trip to Hungary to the presidential summit only. He also said that the Polish leader "continues to advocate genuine pathways toward ending the war in Ukraine," which indirectly shows that he doesn't like Orbán's diplomatic efforts to reach out to Putin.

The situation is getting worse in the Visegrád Group, where different ways of dealing with Moscow have made it harder for members to work together.
