Islamic militants killed two soldiers and injured three others at El Ardja, in the northeastern Kabylie region, press reports said Sunday.

The soldiers were ambushed on Wednesday night by armed extremists on the road between Bordj Menaiel and Cap Djinet, some 110 kilometres (65 miles) east of the capital, newspapers said.

On Thursday, two soldiers were injured when a bomb exploded near the city of Tizi Ghenif in the same region, according to reports on Saturday.

More than 100,000 people, mainly civilians, have been killed in Algeria's civil war which broke out in 1992 -- ALGIERS (AFP)
