Dozens of protesters occupied the Italian consulate here Wednesday to protest police violence against anti-global demonstrators at the G8 summit in Genoa last month, police said.
At least 15 protesters had taken up positions in front of the consulate and several others had managed to get inside, a police spokesman said.
They also unfurled a banner on the building saying "Italy tortures people under arrest" and replaced the Italian flag with a black one.
The protesters are calling for the freedom of all demonstrators detained in Italy after the July 20-22 summit and for an independent inquiry into police violence.
A spokesman for the protesters told Netherlands' Radio 1 that the protesters had no confidence in the inquiry which Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has promised into the incidents -- AMSTERDAM (AFP)
