ALBAWABA - Qatar announced on Wednesday that it will resume the work of its embassy in Syria which has been closed since the Syrian civil war.
Qatar announced the closure of its Damascus embassy in 2011. However, today, the adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the country's bid to reopen the embassy very "soon".
The announcement came three days after the collapse of Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.
Syrian opposition forces led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham announced an operation against the Assad regime on November 27. They were able to oust the Assad regime on December 8.
Rebels began to take control of major cities starting with Aleppo moving to Homs then Hama and finally entering the capital Damascus.
On Tuesday, December 10, Mohammed Al-Bashir confirmed his appointment as Syria's transitional government leader until March 1, 2025. Al-Bashir was first known he was appointed as the head of the Syrian Salvation Government in January 2024, a government in Idlib that operates as a civil authority in coordination with Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham.
The government manages civil affairs in Idlib and parts of the Aleppo countryside and was established in 2017.
