Qatar’s Minister of Energy and Industry Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah suggested Tuesday the establishment of a joint council comprising businessmen from Qatar and Lebanon to boost industrial ties between the two countries, reported the Gulf Times newspaper.

The minister said he hoped Qatar would become a source of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Lebanon, which requires fuel to run its power stations. Currently, Lebanon depends on oil and naptha, which are not clean sources of energy.

Al Attiyah’s remarks came after a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, George Farram, who arrived in Doha on Tuesday, said the paper.

He said that Qatar had submitted a proposal to Lebanon for the supply of LNG.

The proposal involves participation of TotalElfFina in the proposed project – Albawaba.com
