An assailant stabbed and wounded a rabbi inside his Paris synagogue Friday, authorities said.

Gabriel Farhi, 34, was treated for a stomach injury and later released, a hospital spokesman. The attacker fled and was still at large late Friday.

Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe, himself a recent stabbing victim, called the attack "an odious aggression."

According to Israel Radio, the assailant was shouting "Allah is the Greatest we will kill you" before running away. Farhi said the assailant rode a motorcycle and had been wearing a helmet.

Farhi told the radio that this was not the first time he or his family had been threatened. (Albawaba.com)
