In a message to the Iraqi people, President Saddam Hussein said on Tuesday Iraq would conquer tyrants.

In a speech to mark the Islamic New Year, the Iraqi leader said "You the Iraqi people will be victorious, armed with faith, and the despots will be defeated and arrogance will not benefit them."

In a prepared message, read by a presenter on Iraqi television, Saddam said "The (US) tyrant and his likes will be defeated."

"The fruit of your faith and patience will be victory over your enemy. God willing, the believers will achieve victory over the tyrant and his associates." "What does the despot of this century want? What is the right path to defeat him?" Saddam asked. "The tyrant of the era thinks he is God. He imagines he can enslave people and confiscate their decision-making, freedom and legitimate choices," he said.
