Sahara Centre announced this week that it will be granting scholarships as prizes instead of the usual back-to-school promotional offerings, underlining the importance of education to children and the financial concerns parents are faced with in the current rising cost of living.

Mr. Gavin Cox, Sahara Centre Managing Director, announced that instead of tying the promotion to the usual back-to-school stuff and product purchases, the competition was simply open to entry for children. The Centre will give away scholarships to six children and their families from August 24 to September 16, 2005, as part of the Back to School Initiative.

“We recognize that while our Centre is a destination for play, shopping and entertainment, we have a responsible role to play as part of our community," said Mr. Cox. "Back-to-school initiatives need to be fun and engaging for children, but they can also be truly meaningful for our customers."

Sahara Centre, Sharjah’s premier shopping and entertainment mall, made the break away from the conventional back-to-school offerings to show its support for the local community. Worth AED 10,000 each, two grants per week will be awarded every Wednesday from August 31.

Children visiting the promotional area at Sahara Centre just need to fill in a form, writing their name, school, age and other details, and they can enter the prize draw series, which comes hot on the heels of the Centre’s successful Summer Surprises.

Sahara Centre has become a “must go destination” for Arab families since it first opened for business in February 2002, and for this reason it has always taken an active interest in helping the local community.

Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7-9pm children can watch the character parades and participate in different kid’s shows and interactive sessions at Sahara's promotional area, fancifully decorated in colourful summer and school themes that make going back to school exciting. To add still more items to the children's to-do list, there will be giveaway prizes to kids who take part in all the games at Fun Corner during the weekends.

To cater for our younger students, as well as their parents, Toys R Us has gathered a number of leading brands into a mini exhibition that will allow Sahara Center’s visitors to view, test and buy the latest Back To School merchandise.

Fulla, Barbie, Bratz, Spiderman, Batman, The Incredibles and others will be joined to provide you with a wide range of distinguished back to school merchandise.

Draws for the scholarships will take place on August 31, September 7 and  16 in  the presence of the Sharjah Economic Development Department officials.
