The President of France Nicolas Sarkozy stated on Monday that establishing an independent Palestinian state is a "legitimate right." Speaking to the official UAE's news agency WAM, at the start of his visit there he said: "no one would think seriously about peace in the Middle East without giving the Palestinians a state they have been persevering for years. It is their legitimate right."
"What is important is to put an end to this pain and wastage," the French leader went on to say. "In this conflict, Europe and US will stand by Israelis and Palestinians as well to reach reconciliation, but there will be no peace without genuine and sincere will of the two sides."
Sarkozy added that Israel must stop settlement construction activity in the occupied West Bank stop "as it hinders peace" in the region.
