A "limited" number of troops from the Saudi-led coalition have been deployed to Aden to support troops loyal to President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, reports AFP.

"A limited coalition force entered Aden and another force is on its way" to the southern port city, an official, who requested anonymity, told AFP.

Another Popular Committee leader told the news agency that the troops "will start helping us in fighting" the Houthi rebels.

Meanwhile Sanaa residents reported that Saudi-led coalition airplanes conducted airstrikes overnight on the country's capital, targeting forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Reuters reports.

Saudi-led airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen began on March 26th, 2015. However, this is the first time the coalition deployed ground troops in Yemen.
