ALBAWABA - A second arrest warrant was issued by a court in Bangladesh for exiled former leader Sheikh Hasina accusing her of allegedly playing a role in enforced disappearances, AFP reported citing the chief prosecutor.
A first arrest warrant was issued earlier against Sheikh Hasina, 77, who escaped the country to India, on charges of crimes against humanity.
According to local sources, the former leader Hasina was toppled by a student-led revolution upon which she escaped to India last August.
The chief prosecutor of the domestic International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Tajul Islam explained that the second warrant is linked to her enforced disappearances during her 15-year rule as Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Not only against Sheikh Hasina, but the court has issued arrest warrants against "11 others, including her military adviser, military personnel, and other law enforcement officials," Islam added.
According to France 24, during the rule of Sheikh Hasina, human rights violations including mass arrest of political oppositions in addition to sanctions against her security forces were reported leading to mass protests across the country and forcing her to escape.
