Drivers, irons and putters are being dusted off as the Emirates Today World Corporate Golf Challenge swings into action for the second consecutive year.

Twenty two teams from across the United Arab Emirates will have the opportunity to compete in one of the world’s most successful corporate golfing events. Over the last eight months, golfers representing the major companies in the UAE have registered their corporate golf days to reserve a place for their individual winners at this year’s event.

Emaar, Al Naboodah, Pepsi, DHL, UPS, Lloyds, CITI Bank, Acer, National Bank of Dubai and many more have qualified for the event which has grown by 30 percent since last year, giving an indication of the success and reputation the tournament has earned.

The winning 4-ball of the Emirates Today WCGC will have the opportunity to play at the magnificent La Manga Golf Course in Spain from 2nd – 5th July 2007, and compete with the best in the world.

But its first things first with teams having to qualify for the UAE Final at The Montgomerie Dubai on Thursday, April 26.

“Emirates Bank is a keen supporter of Golf in the UAE and through Diners Club we are delighted to be sponsoring the largest and most exclusive corporate golf event in the country. We are proud to lend our support to the local sporting scene and we are now recognized as a key sponsor to sports events across the country,” said Louis Scotto, Emirates Bank’s GM Retail Banking, and Chairman Diners Club UAE, the Tournament’s Main Sponsor.

“This is a unique opportunity which will see the UAE winner join a list of almost 30 countries who will compete in this world-class event in Spain” Scotto added.

The WCGC continues to raise the profile of corporate golf with companies across the world striving for a piece of the action. The global dimension was forged by John Mitchell, the event director, who conceived the Challenge in 1993 and ran pilot events in Jamaica and the Netherlands. In 1997, the World Corporate Golf Challenge was born.

Each country operates and promotes its own event with winning teams playing through a qualifying process to become national champions to represent their country in the prestigious world final.
