seven winners of lloyds tsb small business awards 2007 unveiled in breakfast ceremony

The Lloyds TSB Small Business of the Year Award 2007 has gone to EnviroServe. Stuart Fleming, EnviroServe’s MD collected the award at a glittering breakfast ceremony held at the Emirates Towers Hotel attended by 500 people.

The Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards showcased the best of Dubai’s entrepreneurial talent. Hosted by the BBC presenter Nima Abu-Wardeh and spiced up with a key note by Emirati cultural consultant, Wael Al-Sayegh, the awards recognised the outstanding contribution that small and medium size enterprises make to the UAE’s economy.

EnviroServe, also known as The Green Company, is a public private partnership with the UAE Federal Environment Agency.  The company is formed of two divisions – Refrigerants and EnviroFone – and aims to provide viable alternatives to help protect the environment

Stuart Fleming, Managing Director at EnviroServe, said, ‘I am very proud to be alongside the other very worthy winners.  The Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards are a great networking event and a true endorsement of the importance of small businesses in the UAE.  This award is a victory for us, but also a victory for environmental issues.  My thanks to the sponsors and, most importantly, to all of the staff at EnviroServe who have committed so much to the company and to the environment.’

Bert de Ruiter, Managing Director of Lloyds TSB Middle East pointed out, ‘For the second year running the Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards have showcased the very best in Dubai’s entrepreneurial talent. We have a worthy winner in each category and all of the judges were impressed by the quality of the short-listed businesses.

I wholeheartedly endorse the judges’ view that EnviroServe demonstrated an innovative service, a well thought out business plan and an excellent marketing programme. My congratulations also go to the winners in all of the other categories – a truly inspirational group of people.’

In addition to the main award, awards were also given in several other categories. The Links Group Entrepreneurial Start Up Award went to Hot Shots Dubai, a photographic business. Winner of the 7Days Creative Promotion Award was Divine, Kelly Lundberg’s successful personal shopping business. The Hertz Inspirational Leadership Award went to The Third Line, a young business bringing art and culture to Dubai. DHL, the sponsor of the Outstanding Customer Service Award, handed the award to The Dental Studio, a business offering a dentistry service described by customers as a pleasure rather than a pain. The Visa Business Award went to Flying Elephant, an events management business that started with children’s parties and now works on as many as 3000 events a year. The Royal and SunAlliance Innovation Award went to Physical Advantage, young Australian entrepreneurs who have brought the fitness ‘Bootcamp’ revolution to Dubai.

These Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards are now in their second year. Over 150 businesses applied 2007 and a panel of judges included some of Dubai’s most noteworthy business people. All 16 short-listed businesses presented to the judging panel over 2 days in September. Sponsors of the Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards 2007 included 7Days, Hertz, The Specialists, Lamprell, DHL, Visa, Royal and SunAlliance, Hertz, Links Group of Companies, and others.
