In line with its commitment to raise Sharjah’s profile regionally and internationally, Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is participating in Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2010, the industry's leading travel and tourism exhibition, currently being held at Dubai International Exhibition Centre from 4-7 May 2010.

Through its participation, Sharjah Museums Department seeks to build on Sharjah’s celebrated recognition as the cultural capital in the Arab region and continue to highlight Sharjah’s rich cultural tapestry of 18 museums covering art, archaeology, maritime heritage, calligraphy, Islamic civilization, natural history, and science, among others.

Manal Ataya, Director General, SMD, said: “Our participation at the Arabian Travel Market, one of the world’s premier travel and tourism events, highlights our commitment to further strengthen awareness of Sharjah’s rich collection of museums and the Emirate’s future developments in culture and heritage. Tourists to the emirate of Sharjah currently comprise under 50 per cent of the total visitor demographic to our museums and we have plans to increase tourist arrivals.”

Sharjah Museums Department is participating in ATM 2010 in cooperation with other government departments including Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.

The Sharjah Museums Department, established in 2006 by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to promote the emirate’s rich legacy of arts, heritage and culture.
