EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana said Tuesday that he believes the withdrawal of the "coalition forces" at the present time would not "contribute to Iraq's stability."

Interviewed by the Egyptian Al-Ahram newspaper, Solana affirmed that the international community should continue to support the armed and police forces in Iraq, considering this the "biggest challenge" facing everyone, including the Iraqis.

Solana condemned the assassination of the Egyptian Ambassador to Iraq, Ehab El-Sherif, saying that this is an unjustifiable crime and it is regrettable to see someone killed who has been sent from a neighboring country to give a helping hand.

He believes, he said, that the situation will be worse if Iraqi police suspend operations. He stressed it is hard to have much security guarantees as long as there are people ready and willing to kill.

The European top official called on all to cooperate and confront the "terrorists and murderers" in unity.
