AFP reports that Somalia's al-Shabaab is threatening to kill any militants who change their allegiance from al-Qaeda to Daesh.
"If anyone says he belongs to another Islamic movement, kill him on the spot," one of the heads of al-Shabaab, Abu Abdalla, announced in a radio broadcast Monday. "We will cut the throat of any one... if they undermine unity."
A few al-Shabaab factions have attempted to change their allegiance to Daesh, but have faced attacks and assassinations by al-Shabaab emir Ahmed Diriye, who wants all groups unified in support of al-Qaeda.
Al-Shabaab pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda in 2012. They have been behind a series of violent attacks in Somalia since 2006.
On November 1, al-Shabaab set off two car bombs at a hotel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, killing at least a dozen people. In October, al-Shabaab stormed two military bases in the villages of Moora-Gaabey and Garasweyne and killed over 30 people.
They are suspected to be training and gaining territory in nearby Yemen, AFP reports.
Al-Shabaab and Daesh have been at odds in recent months. Daesh is heavily recruiting foreign fighters, and Nigerian terror group Boko Haram has also pledged allegiance to them.
Abdalla claims that al-Shabaab will not be divided within Somalia, and that any change in ideaology is "sabotage."
"This is a collective decision, and anybody who wants to join another Islamic group must leave the country to meet them where they are." Abdulla said. "I swear by the name of God we will not tolerate the acts of saboteurs."
