Iran would welcome the strategy of negotiations with all countries while imposition of one's idea on the other needs no negotiations, said Foreign Ministry spokesman on Sunday. "Negotiation means to move from one point in order to reach a common point," Hassan Qashqavi told reporters at his first weekly press conference.
Qashqavi made the remarks commenting on the July 19 talks between Iran's top nuclear negotiator and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili and the EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana who represented the Group 5+1 in the meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland. Two nonpapers were exchanged between Jalili and Solana on Iran's nuclear standoff with the West.
The US Undersecretary of State William Burns, the third-highest US diplomat, was also present in the meeting in a major shift of policy on the part of the US.
"Everything is underway in a normal and constructive way to continue the talks, with a focus on the common points of the two packages and reaching an action plan," Qashqavi told reporters, according to IRNA.
He added the trend of Iran-G5+1 talks should be followed up based on the contents and common points of the two nonpapers exchanged between Jalili and Solana. "Iran's nuclear dispute would only be resolved through a common interaction and collective agreement," Qashqavi said, noting that Iran had a "serious" and "constructive" presence at the Geneva talks.
