Sports action at Jumeirah beach this DSF with ‘Beach Games’

Dubai Sports Council organizes exciting sports itinerary for DSF 2009

Sport and outdoor enthusiasts can now head to Jumeirah Beach as Dubai Sports Council, a member of the DSF 2009 Organizing Committee, is organizing an array of competitions till Feb 15 when DSF 2009 will conclude. The event will feature professional and public competitions in soccer, volleyball, and basketball. The sports itinerary is part of DSF Office’s endeavour in creating a portfolio of events that caters to the tastes of a wider audience.

The activities of ‘Beach Games’ will include sport tournament in beach soccer, with the participation of eight teams representing areas in Dubai , and other tournaments in beach volleyball and basketball in coordination with expatriate teams participating in these tournaments.

The folklore activities will feature competitions in traditional games like Quba, Mustae, Dahrouj, Tebba, and will be open for all ages. The event will also contain entertainment games popular with the public, especially with children, such as water foosball, soap playground, human foosball, kick point, mini golf, and twister.

For the first time, the Games will witness - at no charge- courses and workshops in two types of diving: traditional (Al- Hayari) which imitates diving without tools, and modern diving with contemporary tools like special suits and snorkel.

All activities will be under the supervision of specialists in specific areas and on illuminated fields well equipped to welcome the participants. Dubai Sports Council has announced several monetary and other prizes for teams, players and the public that attend the activities or participate in the games. Registration is now open at the competition venue in Jumeirah 1 open beach.

Timings of the competitions in all games: 5pm to 7pm daily, from 22 January to 15 February under the supervision of specialized coaches and an arbitration committee. Public entertainment activities will be held from 3pm to 5pm, and then go on from 7pm to 9pm.
