Sports and Entertainment Facilities Department recently drafted an action program for the environment rangers at King Abdullah II Sport Park, which constitutes a resumption of the environmental park project Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) launched last month.

Director of Sports and Recreational Facilities, Eng. Naser Al Batayneh, said that the program aims at sustaining the implementation of the environmental park, and enabling the environment rangers to protect the park, through creating interaction channels among the various sides working on the project, and maintaining interaction between them and the rangers who represent the most important element in the project.

GAM launched the park project in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the Royal society for the Conversation of Nature (RSCN), at Mousa AL Saket Park in Sweileh region. The project is based on setting up environmental parks to be planted by every child the local community (the environment rangers), and each child shall take care and follow up on his or her planted tree, and to be named after their names.

During the program, communication channels have been arranged between the children and the RSCN on the one hand, and the children and the Ministry of Environment on the other; this step aims at promoting the relationships between all the sides and enhances the environmental sense and responsibility by taking care of the park and its facilities. The children were enthusiastic with the idea and discussed some important suggestions to attain the set goal.

First Lieutenant, Mahmoud Khleifat, reviewed the role of the RSCN in the environmental park. Then the Communication Department Director at the Ministry of Environment, Sana’a Al Labadi stressed on the importance of completing the park project. While the Director of Environmental Awareness at GAM, Omar Arabiat and Head of the Municipal Parls, Rula Ma’ayta, both tackled the random disposal of wastes and its impact on the environment, then they addressed the issue of planting and preserving trees, and maintaining the environmental park.

The program included face painting and screening documentaries on the environmental awareness.

It is worth mentioning that the environmental part concept is based on the idea that its visitors from local community shall take care of the park, and apply the waste recycling system by using special containers which GAM distributed in the park, one container for each material; this procedure raises the children’s awareness on the importance of sorting wastes.
