Le Méridien Al Aqah was the perfect venue for a live cooking demonstration for 45 students from Al Raheeb Basic & Secondary Girls School, a Madares Al Ghad (MAG) School, under the guidance of their teacher Naomi Richard.
The live cooking demonstration was recently held in Le Méridien Al Aqah’s newest outlet, chic Italian restaurant Sapore, as part of the students’ unit theme “You Can Cook.”
The school’s principal Miriam Al Hassani worked with the team at Le Méridien Al Aqah to give the students access to the world class kitchen, to provide practical experience for their English class unit project.
The resort’s food and beverage team prepared a program for the students to highlight the practical use of English and introduce cooking – the students studied a cooking presentation of one of Sapore’s delicious signature dishes, taking notes for later use in recreating the recipe.
It was a feast for all the senses - after the demonstration, the students sampled the cuisine firsthand, eating the freshly made pizzas prepared by the chefs.
Patrick Antaki, General Manager Le Méridien Al Aqah, emphasized the resort’s commitment to its food and beverage offerings. The hotel’s highly trained staff includes people from more than 30 countries, all of whom speak English as a way of communication.
“Le Méridien Al Aqah places a strong emphasis on community activities, in particular we try to support the local educational institutes at any given opportunity and believe this activity will contribute to developing and improving the skills of the future generation of chefs and hoteliers, by exposing hem to the multinational culture we have at Al Aqah,” said Antaki.
The students, girls in grade 9 from Al Aqah, Dhadna, Raheeb and Rul Dhadna, had an opportunity to learn from the experts, discussing the presentation with Executive Chef Pravin Bagali, Chef de Cuisine David Miras, and Chef Hem Sagar Adhikari (Commis 1).
Every student came away with a better understanding of the importance of learning English, as well as a basic English cooking vocabulary.
