Two Swiss tourists that had been kidnapped in Yemen were freed on Tuesday by their captors and handed over to local Yemeni authorities. The two will reportedly continue their tourist rip in the country despite their ordeal.

The swiss couple, Bruno Bayer and wife Katerina Bayer, arrived on Tuesday east of Yemen's capital at the governorate of Marib, according to the AFP.

The release of the couple followed intervention of several tribal chiefs of the Obaida tribe who were related to abductor.

“Six chiefs from the Obaida tribe have pledged to the abductor that they would carry his legitimate demands to the authorities and exert pressure in order that they are met,” one source told reporters. “This pledge has allowed the release of the two Swiss hostages,” he added.

“The two hostages will continue their tourism trip in Yemen,” a Yemenite security source stated.
