The Swiss Alpine resort of Zermatt is offering Middle East travellers a cool blend of relaxation and sporting action this summer as international tennis and one of the highest altitude races in the world hit town.
Visitors could get a glimpse of the next Roger Federer in action when the Raiffeisen Zermatt Open takes place from 1-3 July while the second day of the tournament coincides with the 4th Zermatt Marathon, incorporating a staggering ascent of over 2000 metres.
A backdrop of 25 kilometres of summer ski slopes adds to the attraction of action-packed Zermatt which has lured a growing number of Middle East holiday makers in recent years.
“With the longest summer ski season in the Alps, Zermatt has long been attracting snow-sport enthusiasts seeking respite from soaring summer temperatures in Arabia,” said
Wolfgang Pinkwart, general manager, Seiler Hotels.
“Many of our guests enjoy outdoor pursuits and sports, and this summer they can combine skiing, walking and hiking through the mountains with a good helping of international tennis and high altitude running.”
Seiler Hotels is celebrating its 150th anniversary and throughout the summer season guests booking at least five nights get one night free. More information on events and the hotels is available at www.seilerhotels.ch
The Raiffeisen International Tennis Open at Zermatt Tennis Club attracts professionals from all over Europe and beyond. Some of today’s top tennis stars, including world No.1 Federer, have graced the tournament in previous years.
As the event builds towards its climax, runners will set off on the gruelling trail to the finish line in the 4th Zermatt Marathon. With some of Europe’s most stunning scenery on the way, the contestants will complete the challenging race on the Riffelberg which towers 3,089 metres above sea level.
Skiers and boarders staying on for action-packed adventures all of their own can take advantage of a joint venture between Zermatt and its neighbouring resort, Saas-Fee. From 2 July to 31 October the two chocolate-box locations offer a single ski-pass valid for both areas, so guests staying in Zermatt get more mountains for their money.
After all this activity guests can rest their weary limbs at one of the four Seiler Hotels properties in Zermatt – the Mont Cervin Palace, the Monte Rosa, the Hotel Schweizerhof and the Hotel Nicoletta – as well as the affiliated Riffelalp Resort 2222m, Europe’s highest altitude five star hotel.
Each hotel offers spacious accommodation and a variety of dining options. Lucky guests of the Mont Cervin, Monte Rosa and Hotel Nicoletta can also enjoy free access to a new Daniela Steiner Beauty Spa – perfect for relaxing at the end of each muscle-straining day.
