At least one civilian has been killed and two dozen injured when militants detonated an explosive-laden car near the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Local sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the blast took place on the outskirts of the city of al-Tall, located about 10 kilometers (six miles) northeast of Damascus, on Tuesday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

The source added that the explosion left one civilian dead and twenty-four others, among them four children and five women, injured.

The development comes a day after ten civilians sustained injuries in rocket attacks by terrorists targeting residential areas in Damascus as well as the western city of Homs.

Three civilians, including two students and a teacher, were injured when a number of rockets landed in downtown Damascus.

In a separate development, Four civilians were injured when a rocket round slammed into the Christian Bab Toumadistrict in the Old City of the Syrian capital.

Militants also fired rockets into the Ikrima residential area of Homs, located about 162 kilometers (100 miles) north of Damascus. The projectiles fell near a school, inflicting wounds of various degrees on three civilians.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fueled by rebel groups has so far claimed the lives of over 210,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.

Over 3.8 million Syrians have left their country since the beginning of the crisis. More than 7.2 million Syrians have also become internally displaced, according to the United Nations.
