Six people were killed as the Syrian army shelled Damascus. The Syrian Observatory of Human Rights was quoted by AFP as saying that "a woman, three children and two men" were killed in the Damascus neighborhood of Al-Hajar Al-Aswad.

In another incident, eleven people were killed as rebels attacked the Alawite majority village of Shalluh  in Homs. President Bashar Al-Assad belongs to the Alawite minority in Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also added that earlier in the day, four people, among them two children, were killed in an air strike on the village of Latamneh.
