Syrian state news reports of a car bombing in the northwestern city of Latakia on Wednesday, AFP reports.
At least seven people were killed in the blast, while approximately 40 others have been injured.
Violence has been on the rise in the pro-government strong hold in recent weeks. In mid-August Syrian rebel rocket fire killed at least three people in the coastal city.
Latakia is home to much of the country's Alawi sect, of which Bashar al-Assad belongs.
