Dr. Imad Zuhair Mustafa, Syria's acting ambassador to Washington, took on Tuesday the legal oath before President Assad as a permanent ambassador to the United States.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara.
Following the ceremony, Assad received the new ambassador and provided him with his directives, wishing him success in his job, SANA reported.
Late last year, sources in Damascus said that the Syria asked the American administration to accept Mustafa, as ambassador, a post which has been vacant for years.
It should be recalled that at the same time the US Congress ratified a decision for appointing Margaret Scooby as an ambassador for the US to Syria.
