Syria has issued regulations banning men from marrying foreign housekeepers or baby-sitters, according to the official news agency, SANA.

The decision was announced Sunday by Minister of Interior, Mohammad Harba, whose ministry regulated the entry and residence of the foreign maids.

The decision stipulated that employers have to submit an application to Immigration and Passports Department in this regard as to obtain a residence permit whereby the employer should file a written pledge as to provide expenses of returning employees home once a work contract is not renewed, said the agency.

Housekeepers and baby-sitters have to restrict themselves to work with the same employers and to obtain a prior consent once they wanted to change their employers, according to the regulations – Albawaba.com
